Types of Horse Racing Bets
Horse racing offers a variety of bet types to suit different strategies and risk appetites.
Single Bets
Win
The simplest bet: your horse must finish first.
Each-Way (E/W)
Two bets in one:
1. Win bet at full odds
2. Place bet at reduced odds (usually 1/4 or 1/5 of win odds)
Place terms vary by race size (typically top 2-4 finishers).
Place
Your horse must finish in the places (typically top 2-4). Lower odds than a win bet but higher chance of success.
Multiple Bets
Double
Two selections must both win. Returns from the first bet roll onto the second.
Treble
Three selections must all win. Higher risk, higher reward.
Accumulator (Acca)
Four or more selections must all win. One losing selection means the entire bet loses.
Specialty Bets
Forecast
Predict the first two finishers in correct order.
Tricast
Predict the first three finishers in correct order.
Trixie
Four bets covering three selections:
- 3 doubles
- 1 treble
Yankee
Eleven bets covering four selections:
- 6 doubles
- 4 trebles
- 1 four-fold accumulator
Choosing the Right Bet
